Great Pictures... My family is also from Garfield NM. Two of my Great Grandparents are buried here as well. Others are in the old gravesite in town. My family has been there forever as well and even use to own a great deal of land before it was workable. For a small town Garfield is full of rich history.

James - Please help me if you can. My uncle was in the construction business in 1959 in El Paso when the bids were put out for the construction of I-10. I was only 9 at the time, so my memory is hazy. If I remember right, a single contractor was picked to build I-10 from Anthony all the way to Van Horn. He then of course brought in many subcontractors. Is this correct? Who was that general contractor?

Hey Hazel, I really do appreciate your perspective on this. I live in Colorado and don't have much first hand experience with this. I've been following the Yes Scotland movement here and there and find it fascinating.

Actually it is quite unusual to see a Saltire in sky blue (as depicted above). Although the blue is meant to represent the sky, it's much more common to see it in a dark blue, like that of Scottish sporting colours, and like the Union flag. Both flags can be seen depicted, from time to time, in various shades of blue. If you want to see it depicted accurately and consistently, look at other blue ensign flags such as those of Australia and New Zealand. The Union flags in their top left corners are always a very 'Scottish' blue.

The Union flag was chosen from a number of suggested designs, by James the VI & I, and the blue is definitely meant to represent the blue of the Saltire (historical fact, not conjecture), just as the red represents that of the St George's cross. Once the Union is dissolved, the Union flag, if it continues to be used at all, will have a white background.

Think you'll find Scotland is a nation that is merely in a treaty with England. Just as America has entered many treaties with other countries.. but you didn't stop being America now, did you?
Treaties can be undone... and hopefully we'll vote for that in 2014. If you were aware of any politics at all in the UK, you would be able to find out that under law, England can still make treaties with Scotland - even to this day. Therefore admitting Scotland is indeed a sovereign country.

Thanks for sharing! :D It's so revealing to hear Shakespeare in the original pronunciation. It's adds an entirely new dimension to his work and reveals the humor that is lost in in the modern pronunciation.

I saw my first play in the Globe in 2007, which happened to be Much Ado About Nothing. It wasn't performed in the original pronunciation, but I loved it any way. It really brought the play to life. I am now an Educational Editor for English with ZigZag Education (http://zigzageducation.co.u... and see many resources for teenagers (aged 11-18) which try to engage young people with a Shakespeare play, as this is now a compulsory requirement within our curriculum. Although we try to help as much as possible, surely nothing beats seeing a play performed in the original pronunciation at the Globe! It makes me want to go again. :)

I am sad to know that she won't be around in 3-D, but is certainly in all of us who got to see her perform, those lucky enough to have worked and played with her, and those especially lucky ones whom she taught and mentored. She had an amazing core of energy and purpose as an actor, and always elevated even not-quite-prime-time material into something special. What a force.
